2003 W First Flight Centennial Commemorative Proof Gold Coin (.49 troy ounce of gold) With All Original Government Packaging
Up for sale is a 2003 W First Flight Centennial Gold Commemorative Proof coin which contains .49 Troy ounce of gold.  2003 was the hundred year anniversary of the new Wright brothers first flight in Kitty Hawk, NC and this coin commemorates that centennial.  The obverse of the coin shows Orville and Wilbur Wright and was designed by the US mint engraver/sculptor Donna Weaver.  The reverse, also designed by Donna Weaver, shows the 1903 Wright flyer in flight.
This gold coin is 16.718 grams in total weight and is made of 90% gold and a 10% alloy of nickel and copper.  That computes to a .49 troy ounce of gold.  The mintage on this proof gold coin was a relatively scarce 21,676 coins.
The coin in the picture is the coin you will receive.  It has remained untouched since leaving the West Point mint and has been kept in a climate controlled home since I purchased the coin from the mint in 2003.  Included with the coin is all of the original government packaging including the certificate of authenticity.
