The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) grading team evaluated this 2022 Negro Leagues Baseball Gold Commemorative Coin and awarded it the always desirable Mint State 70 (MS70) grade. This gorgeous gold coin was issued as part of a United States Mint commemorative series that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Negro National League, which was created in response to that fact that many baseball leagues at the time would not allow African American players to participate.
The iconic First Releases (FR) designation is displayed on the label.
This issue highlights the historic significance of baseball's landmark Negro National League.
The coin was struck on a 90% pure gold blank that weighs .243 troy ounces.
The coin has a face value.
The coin was struck at the West Point branch of the U.S. Mint.
Coin Honors Negro League Founder Rube Foster
Obverse: The portrait on the obverse of the coin depicts Negro League founder and baseball legend Rube Foster. His portrait is featured with a depiction of his signature. The design was brought to fruition by artist Laurie Musser of the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program and Phebe Hemphill, U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver.
Reverse: The reverse design features the tipping of a baseball hat. The legend "Their Legacy Plays On" dominates the verbiage on the coin's reverse. Artist Donna Weaver of the Mint's A.I.P designed the reverse, which was sculpted by Eric David Custer.

Coins are examined under magnification during the grading process. Mint State 70 (MS 70) level coins are considered unblemished: they have only positive attributes. These coins have abundant mint luster, original surfaces, crisp design details and outstanding eye appeal.
